Graduates "Rattle" with Anticipation at Rattler Reception
Graduates Getting Ready for FAMU
The Jacksonville Chapter of the Florida A&M University Alumni Association held a fun filled reception for high school graduates from the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area that will matriculate to Florida A&M University (FAMU) this fall. The event was held at the FAMU College of Pharmacy, Jacksonville Campus on Saturday, July 28th. The reception gave area graduates a chance to network with future classmates from their home town and parents an opportunity to establish a support base with each other and area alumni.
The reception wasn’t all fun and games. The Chapter awarded several outstanding graduates with scholarships. Sparkle Kemp, one of the scholarship recipients and her mother, Doneese Kemp, were in the full FAMU spirit. Sparkle said, “I feel great about attending FAMU and looking forward to meeting new people.” Kemp, a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School will major in Nursing and plans to pursue a master’s degree in Pediatrics.
Chapter President Godfrey Jenkins and the membership committee worked hard to ensure the events success. In the end, it was all worth while. “To look into the eyes of those young men and women was truly a "FAMU Rattler" moment for me personally”, says Everett Williams, Membership Committee Chairman.
The Jacksonville Chapter of the FAMU Alumni Association meets the second Saturday of each month at Jean Ribault High School Band Room and at the Highlands Library on Dunn Ave (during football season).
